A Doctor’s Heart, Inc was founded in 2008 by a group of friends in Tallahassee, Florida who had a passion for using the gifts God gave them to serve those in need. All of the friends had previously been to Central America on various medical/evangelistic missions. Sensing a need to organize behind a common mission goal, A Doctor’s Heart, Inc was formed as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Since 2008, A Doctor’s Heart has concentrated on sending medical and construction mission teams to the remote villages along the many tributaries to the Amazon River in Amazonas, Brazil. Working with missionaries Rick and Kim Parker, A Doctor’s Heart has developed a multifaceted strategy to assist the Parkers in improving the lives of these native Brazilians.
Spiritually, all our mission trips incorporate a Vacation Bible School program which clearly presents the Gospel to all participants. While the program is geared towards youth, many adults also participate.
Physically, medical clinics are held in each village to address the many acute and chronic diseases associated with living and working in a remote rain forest environment. Many of these diseases are a result of the lack of clean drinking water. Realizing this, A Doctor’s Heart has embarked on a program to dig clean water wells in as many villages as possible. This will serve as a more long term solution to many of the health problems encountered by the villagers. A Doctor’s Heart also supplies eye and dental care as these services are scarce in these remote areas.
A third aspect of our mission in the Amazon is to help the Parkers establish a permanent ministry presence in river villages. Placing Brazilian missionary couples directly in a village allows the Word of God to be preached and demonstrated daily. A Doctor’s Heart is honored to assist by building the river village home for this missionary couple. In a 8 short days, our mission team constructs an entire house using materials donated by A Doctor’s Heart from our faithful donors and partners. This allows the couple to move into their new home debt free, allowing them to concentrate fully on serving their new neighbors.
